“Precision” is not a complete specification. A precision CNC part is accepted because the requirements that protect its function, assembly, appearance, or downstream process are clear and measurable. Without that definition, both a drawing and an inspection report can look detailed while still leaving the critical question unanswered.

The most useful acceptance criteria start with the part’s role in the assembly. Functional datums, geometric controls, surface requirements, and measurement methods should work together rather than appear as independent notes.

Choose datums that reflect assembly function

Datums are the reference framework for locating and measuring a part. Select them from surfaces, bores, or features that actually establish the component in its intended assembly. A convenient manufacturing surface may not be the functional reference, so the drawing should explain the relationship when it matters.

When a critical bore must align with a mounting face, or a sealing diameter must relate to a flange, the datum scheme makes the acceptance intent visible. That is more actionable than adding tight size limits without a relationship control.

Use GD&T for relationships, not decoration

Agree on the measurement plan
